September 1, 2007, the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN) became the Internet2 Connector for Texas. As part of Internet2's K20 Initiative, individual entities and state and regional networks in Texas that are not members of Internet2 may apply through LEARN or through a LEARN Member Aggregator who serves as a Sponsor for a connection to the Internet2 Network under Internet2's Sponsored Education Group Participant (SEGP) program.
The SEGP program is intended to allow expanded access to the Internet2 Network. State and regional networks may include non-profit and for-profit K-20 educational institutions, museums, libraries, art galleries, or hospitals that require routine collaboration on instructional, clinical and/or research projects, services and content with Internet2 Members or with other Sponsored Participants.
LEARN is currently sponsoring Internet2 access to 65 institutions through 5 member Aggregators who serve as Sponsors of SEGP Participants.
